Improving quality: It seeks to enhance the quality of education in higher education institutions by supporting infrastructure development, faculty improvement, and accreditation mechanisms.

Promoting equity and inclusion: RUSA aims to reduce disparities in higher education by focusing on marginalized and underserved populations, such as women, minorities, and people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Encouraging reforms and innovation: It supports initiatives to introduce flexibility and innovation in higher education programs, curriculum design, and assessment methods.

Strengthening state higher education systems: RUSA works to enhance the governance, regulatory frameworks, and capacity of state higher education systems to better serve their respective regions.

Enhancing research and development: It encourages research and development activities within higher education institutions to foster a culture of innovation and knowledge creation.

Promoting internationalisation: RUSA seeks to create opportunities for international collaboration, student and faculty exchange, and global exposure in higher education.

These objectives collectively aim to transform and uplift the higher education sector in India, making it more inclusive, of higher quality, and better aligned with the evolving needs of the country.
